Chapter Eight
Alec was turned sideways in his seat, staring sightlessly at Shannon as she told him some story about a penguin and her brother’s art class…or maybe it hadn’t been a penguin. Was it a moose? Either way, he didn’t much care.
He should. He knew he should. In front of him was one of the most sought after girls in school. She was on the cheerleading squad. She wore short skirts and sexy knee-high boots. She was known for being a great kisser, and she’d done everything right this evening.
From pick up to dinner conversation, Shannon was a master at dating. It was partway through the second hour that Alec realized she was too perfect. She was fake. And she was predictable. She had no spunk or spontaneity. Quite frankly, she was boring.
“Alec,” she said with a little sigh, drawing his attention to her. “I get the feeling that you aren’t paying one lick of attention to my squirrel story.”
Ah. So it had been a squirrel. Good to know. “I…I’m sorry. I’m just distracted tonight is all.”
She smiled affectionately at him, her lips pursing into a pout. “I think I have an idea what’s been on your mind.”
He couldn’t help his surprise. He’d been fairly certain she hadn’t listened to a single word he’d said all night. With that in mind, he wasn’t sure how she could even guess at the problems running through his mind. “You do?”
She bit her lip with a foxy grin and nodded. “I do.” Without any warning, she was sliding across the gearshift of his car to squeeze herself next to him in his seat. They were parked in a wooded area a few blocks from her house, just talking. At least they had been just talking…
Her fingers grazed his neck as she lifted her lips to brush against his. “You’ve been distracted with thoughts of kissing me.” She pressed her lips more firmly to his. “I’ll put your mind at ease. I allow you.”
As her lips pressed to his once again, Alec felt himself giving in. He was torturing himself over a girl when he had one very much into him right here. He should be giving Shannon a chance instead of moping over Ellie.
He deepened Shannon’s kiss, his hand coming up to cup the back of her head.
A purr escaped her, and she shifted closer on the seat. “You are so very sexy in your hockey get-up. You know that?”
He mumbled an unintelligible thanks before tugging her closer.
Shannon gave a little giggle of approval before swinging her leg over his so she could straddle his lap. “Alec Horner…you bad boy.”
Now this was more his speed. He was used to feeling in control. He was used to knowing when girls wanted him. He chuckled and drew her mouth down to his. “You have no idea.”
She responded so well to his touch, whimpering and giggling. With her hands on either side of his neck, she kissed each corner of his mouth with gentle pecks before flicking her tongue up the length of his mouth.
